Innovation in Protecting Outdoor Projectors

In the ever-evolving landscape of event technology, protecting delicate equipment from the unpredictable elements has been a longstanding challenge. At PYTCH, we tackled this challenge head-on by crafting our own solution – a custom waterproof ventilated box for projectors. In this post, we'll delve into the evolution of this innovation and its impact on outdoor projections, using Westonbirt Arboretum’s Enchanted as a glowing example.

Two decades ago, safeguarding projectors from the weather would have required massive and expensive enclosures. However, advancements in technology have reshaped this landscape. Today, our custom waterproof box is compact, cost-effective, and a testament to the strides made in protective solutions for outdoor projects.

Westonbirt Arboretum boasts over 20 projectors strategically placed throughout the forest, each housed within one of our custom boxes. This allows us to project on diverse surfaces, enabling the creation of mesmerising moving light shows that immerse audiences.

The Anatomy of the Box

Manufactured in our specialised set build workshop, our custom boxes are constructed with marine ply, ensuring waterproof integrity. With a 1500-lumen capacity, these boxes deliver projections that shine brightly in total darkness, creating vivid and impactful displays. To manage the heat generated by the projector, an IP-rated fan is installed, ensuring optimal performance and longevity.

While darkness enhances the projection's brightness, the heat emitted by the projector can be a double-edged sword. To address this, our custom boxes maintain a delicate balance. The internal warmth minimises condensation on surfaces, crucial for maintaining clarity in projections. This strategic approach to temperature control ensures a harmonious balance between the advantages and challenges posed by the projector's heat.

Looking to the Future

Technicians and producers eagerly embrace the innovations of the modern-day – smaller, more advanced, and cost-effective solutions that were unimaginable two decades ago. PYTCH looks forward to contributing to this ongoing wave of innovation, shaping the future of outdoor event technology.
